Where Remarkable CEOs Challenge Your Thinking about Life and Work

BIO: Jane Porter, RN

Jane Porter, RN, is the Founder, CEO, and Director of Nursing of Grace and Glory Hospice and Palliative Care in Northern California, and the author of On the Edge of Eternity: A Compassionate Guide for Families When a Loved One Is Dying. With more than forty years of healthcare experience and over twenty years devoted to hospice care, Jane has walked alongside thousands of patients and families through some of life’s most tender and sacred moments.

Her journey reflects her belief that purpose does not have an expiration date. After years of caregiving and raising five children, Jane became a Registered Nurse at fifty-five. She went on to serve as Director of Nursing for multiple Bay Area hospices and helped establish hospice programs for other organizations. At seventy, she founded Grace and Glory alongside her husband, Bradd, and their son, James, with a shared commitment to compassionate care rooted in faith, dignity, and service.

For Jane, hospice has always been a calling and a passion. She believes that excellent hospice care combines skilled symptom management with education, reassurance, and the faithful presence of people who care. Her Christian faith shapes her work, while her team welcomes and serves patients and families of every faith and those with no faith. She has always been passionate about advocating for her patients and supporting her staff.

In writing the book, On the Edge of Eternity at the age of 76, Jane brings together true hospice stories, practical guidance, and faith-filled encouragement to help families understand what is happening, provide comfort, and feel less alone. She also hopes the book will help change how people view hospice and inspire hospice teams across the country to build cultures of compassion, presence, integrity and excellence. She hopes that her story will encourage others to believe that God’s timing is always perfect, and that the latter years of someone’s life can become some of the most fruitful, impactful, and fulfilling years of all.

Her message is simple: knowledge reduces fear, love brings comfort, and no one should have to walk this journey alone. “When you share your burdens, they are halved and when you share your joys they are doubled.”
