John Phillips

A week and a half ago The Mentors Radio Host John Phillips and his wife, Mary, wanted to help Hurricane Harvey flood victims in Houston. Over lunch on Monday they decided to drop everything, load up their 8-foot by 40-foot horse and living trailer with essential supplies like water and diapers and deliver the supplies to a church distribution center in Montgomery, Texas, located just up a small hill from some of the worst-hit Texas regions. From Arizona that is a 17-HOUR trip ONE way.

One of three blowouts – ugg!

Loading the 40′ trailer

Action time.  They mobilized their local-based employees, set up a GoFundMe page, got the word out, and by early the next morning Associated Crafts & Willet Hauser employees, Costco employees, and local business owners showed up to a Costco parking lot to help load the massive trailer. Even a local TV broadcaster and film crew were there!  Donations poured in.  Pete Leighton from Main Street RV in Mesa, AZ donated more than $1,000 and service to Phillips’ vehicle to ready it for the Texas-bound trip.  Darvin Harmon from Royalty Realty donated $1,000 of new clothes to the effort. Local TV reporter Ryan from local CBS 5 chipped in with some sweat equity, and business owner Dom Sargiotto, president of All American Security Alarms in Gilbert, AZ, donated $3,000 and accompanied John on the journey.  Less than 14 hours later Phillips and Sargiotto were on the road.  They trip took much longer than planned.  Along the way they endured not one, but THREE blowouts, experienced the unexpected kindness of complete strangers, and got a first-hand taste of the devastation, angst and yet hope of those suffering unimaginable loss. In this interview, Salem Media Network’s Life!Line Host Craig Roberts talks with John on his way back home, just after leaving the drop off point in Montgomery. THIS IS WHAT ETHICAL LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE! Kudos to John, Mary, Dom and Team!!  Enjoy the short, on-the-road interview…

Gratitude & Hope in Montgomery, TX
